The mountain village and holiday centre Srní is situated about 16 km south of the town Sušice in the National Park Šumava (Bohemian Forest) near the Vydra river, 845 m a.s.l.

The former settlement of timbermen was founded at the beginning of the 18th century.
Several mountain buildings with walls covered with shingle can be seen there. The Church of the Most Holy Trinity, which originates from the beginning of the 19th century, is one of them.

Several ski lifts can be found in the surroundings.

The so-called Klostermann's View (named after the writer Karel Klostermann), place with beautiful views of the Vydra river and Povydří (Vydra Valley), lies not far from the village.
The storage reservoir for the hydroelectric power station in the small village Čeňkova Pila was built above Srní between 1938 - 1943. The water runs there via the underground tunnel from the Vchynicko-Tetovský Kanál (Vchynice-Tetov Canal), which was used for floating timber. The so-called "Water Chateau", which stands near the Klostermann's View, is used as a surge chamber.
