The winter holiday centre Hojsova Stráž lies in the western part of the Šumava mountains (Bohemian Forest). It is located about 8 km north of the town Železná Ruda on the western slopes of Můstek mountain, 890 m a.s.l.

It was founded for miners near the iron mines in the 16th century. It was also a seat of the magistrate's office at that time. This place became a well-known seat in the 20th century due to the development of tourism in the Šumava mountains.

The single-aisled Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in the village was built between 1824 - 1826.
