The village Loučovice lies 5 km west of the small town Vyšší Brod and 3 km far from the Lipno Dam on the upper reaches of the Vltava river, 672 m a.s.l.

The first mention of Loučovice is from 1361. It used to be property of the monastery in Vyšší Brod.
In the second half of the 19th century a noted paper mill was founded here.
The electrified railroad from the small village Rybník to the village Lipno leads through Loučovice (from 1911).
The original name of the village was Lúčovic according to the neighbouring hill called Lúč.

The small Gothic St. Procopius' Church, originally a wooden chapel founded after 1220, stands on the left bank of the Vltava river.
The St. Ulrich's Church was built on the opposite bank and it was finished in 1361. It was reconstructed several times during the 16th and 17th centuries.

Kramolín mountain towers above the Lipno Dam not far from the village. It is an important South Bohemian winter sports centre.
