The small village Libějovice lies about 5 km south-east of the town Vodňany about 400 m a.s.l., below Lomec hill (552 m) with the well-known pilgrimage church.

The oldest mentions of the village originate from 1264, when the village belonged to Tomáš from Libějovice. In 1389 Dobeš from Libějovice is mentioned as a proprietor.

In the middle of the 14th century the Malovcové from Malovice built the Gothic fortress in the village. The Rožmberks rebuilt it into the Renaissance mansion between 1557 – 1610. From 1612 to 1621 the village belonged to the Švamberks, the Buquoys were the owners from 1620 to 1801, and after them the Schwarzenbergs owned it until 1924.

In 1696 the so-called New Mansion was founded on the outskirts of the village. The construction was interrupted several times and it was completely finished in the 19th century under the ownership of the Schwarzenbergs.
Both the mansions are the biggest manorial seats in the region of the town Vodňany.

The nature reserve Libějovický Park (Park of Libějovice) was founded on the border of the village. The locality is rare for its oak-hornbeam vegetation and lots of protected species of birds.
