The small village Heřmaň lies about 7 km south of the town Písek in the valley of the Blanice river, 382 m a.s.l.

Heřmaň is for the first time mentioned in the middle of the 13th century and later it became a small town. The first Hussite rebellion took place here at the beginning of the 15th century (1416). The armed proponents of the dogma of John Huss attacked the rectory and plundered it. In 1640 the town was burnt down and destroyed by the Swedish soldiers. Only a part of the original seat has been preserved.

The originally Gothic St. Gilles' Church was rebuilt into the Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century. A few typical South Bohemian homesteads can be seen in the village.

Heřmaň is a birthplace of the poet Jan Čarek. The house where he was born with the plaque can be found opposite the church.
