The small village Pluhův Žďár lies about 12 km north-west of the town Jindřichův Hradec, 505 m a.s.l.

The originally Gothic fortress, which was rebuilt into the chateau later, stands in the village in the surroundings of the church. It is first mentioned in the second half of the 13th century. The reconstruction into the Baroque chateau started in the 17th century.
The original stone fortress comprised the residential palace with enclosure walls. The present chateau is the four-winged building with the small inner courtyard. The remains of the moat, bulwarks and bridge can be seen around it.

The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary from 1542 was reconstructed in the Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century. In the 16th century it used to be a well-known pilgrimage place with the healing spring.
